Canva's Magic Decorate
A useful tool for beginners ... but generative AI
This video was a difficult one to make, because I don’t like using generative AI. On the other hand, my goal with this channel is to help authors use Canva for their book marketing and this is such a game changer for authors who are new to Canva, that if I were to ignore it, I would be doing you a disservice. So … here it is. You’re welcome.
Canva AI has arrived in the UK Canva accounts. The rollout was announced during Canva Create a couple of months ago. Basically, Canva has intergrated AI into its plaform so that it’s available throughout. A lot of the stuff that comes under the ‘magic’ umbrella is AI. However, it also includes a lot of things that have been around long before the advent of generative AI (like ‘background remover’).
Today’s video is about some of the ‘Magic’ suite tools - Magic Decorate, Magic Background and Ask Canva. The first two are Canva Pro services, Ask Canva appears to be for everyone. Your Canva Pro subscription gives you access to a much bigger array or elements and videos, but more importantly (as far as I’m concerned, anyway) it gives you access to better tools like background remover and the eraser and better control on animations. You also get more AI credits. I rarely use mine, but you may use all of yours. I believe they reset at the start of the month.

Magic Decorate, Magic Background and Ask Canva all do similar things. You make a start on your design, maybe put in all the text and then ask the AI to design the visual elements for you. You can use a prompt to give the AI a rough idea of what you want or you can take a leap of faith and hope it works out what the design is about - it seems to be pretty good at that, depending on what text you’ve put into the design already.
The nice thing about these tools in 2026 is that you can alter the elements individually. You can tweak colours, sizes and layouts and make the design your own.
If you’re new to Canva and just want a decent design in a hurry, without all the faffing about learning how to use various Canva tools, then these might be the exact time saving tools you need.
Do you use generative AI? Or do you prefer not to? Let me know in the comments.

I won't touch AI but background remover is my favourite thing.
I avoid all generative AI as far as I can, but it's not always possible so I guess the secret is to use it as ethically as we can if we're forced to?
