How to make a 'search' type animation
A different sort of hook to catch your readers' attention
Hello
It’s been a wild couple of weeks for me. At the start of the month, I went to the Harper Collins author party and had a lovely time swanning about being all writerly. One of the nicest things was that several authors made it a point to come and tell me that they watching my tutorial videos and used them to make social media images and merch. A few even gave me bookmarks that they’d made after following my bookmarks tutorial.
I enjoy making the videos, but it takes a long time to make and edit them and the channel doesn’t make me any money, so it was great to see that this stuff that I’m doing was having an effect in the real world. (At some point, I’m going to put together a couple of courses with new videos and proper workflows, but I simply don’t have the time right now - books to write, kids to feed etc).
Today’s video is how to make a ‘search box’ type animation. The idea is that you show the viewer someone typing in a search term ‘summer romance novels’ for example. If this is something they’re looking for themselves, it’ll pique their interest. I’ve used it to showcase a number of books in my example, but you could equally well use it to show just one book.
