The marvellous duotone hack
Change colours of fixed-colour elements and make silhouettes from photos
Hello again
After last week’s tutorial on the Image to Frame app (if you haven’t seen it, it’s here), I was asked the question ‘how do you make the silhouettes in the first place’. So I thought I’d do a tutorial about the Duotone app, which I use all the time to change the colours of elements. I use it most often to recolour blurs so that they blend nicely with the background. This is especially useful when making book covers. You can also use Duotone to turn cut out images into silhouettes.
Normally, at this point, I try and tell you a story about something, but honestly, I’ve got nothing this week. I’m in full summer holiday chaos mode. I’m writing this on Thursday afternoon (this email goes out on Friday!) with Thomas the Tank Engine playing on the telly by way of a babysitter. I am often quite concerned about the health and safety on the island of Sodor. The railway seems to rely quite heavily on ‘luckily, no one was hurt’. They probably need better systems. Come to think of it, so do I.
Here’s your tutorial on how to use duotone. It’s such a useful little app.
If you find these videos useful, please tell all your friends. If there’s anything you want to make in Canva, drop me a line and I’ll see if I can make a tutorial on it for you.
Regards
